Dance parties are a pretty common occurrence in my life.  I often break out in dance when I hear my favourite song on the radio, or when I need to take a mental break from working on a certain tasks.  When my boys were little, I used to dance to entertain and play with them, and when I get together with my FITMOM Family,  dance parties are actually built into our agenda! With all of this dancing in my life it’s not surprising to see that a FITMOM Babywearing Dance class has made its way into our programs.  These events have been taking place in Toronto and Niagara for over a year now, and I think it’s about time for Durham Mom’s to have the same experience.

Dancing, movement and rhythm are a natural part of our daily experiences.  We tap our feet, swing our hips, sway and shuffle to music all the time.  We use these movements to help soothe our babies when they are upset and to express our joy. Through babywearing your little one is able to internalize the motions which helps to meet their physical needs; it also allows you another way to communicate your love through movement.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any dance experience.  This class will teach very simple steps to fun, upbeat music.  We don’t take ourselves too seriously, none of us are expert dancers, we just like to move to the rhythm.  All you need to bring with you is your enthusiasm and the desire to have a good time.

If you are planning on joining us, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Bring your soft structured baby carrier or wrap that is comfortable and suitable for you and your baby
  • Follow your manufacturers recommendations for safe babywearing ( we recommend that your baby is always facing inwards, close enough to kiss, provide adequate head and neck support for your baby and that the carrier evenly distributes the weight of your baby comfortably on your body)
  • Wear light clothing for both you and baby (we will be getting warm, shakin our booties!)
  • Bring water and clean indoor shoes

Our first Babywearing Dance Party will take place on Wednesday April 12th at 11:30am at our Oshawa location. I hope to see you there!  Ready to join us? Buy your tickets here.
